If some of you experience the same weather as me, you can relate to the struggle with the six month long Edmonton winters. I don't enjoy shooting in the snow, and even if I did like it, the snow introduces a ton of problems in shooting; dripping noses, red body parts, and wrecking my camera are just some of the potential issues when shooting in winter. Then my next option is moving inside, but wait... a lot of people say "I don't have studio lights", and "I want to use natural light". Well, I'm here to tell you that all you mainly need is a flash and a white bed sheet to create a natural light look. The lighting diagram below is exactly the set up I used for the image below, where the image also shows the before and after shot. All you need to do is hang up a sheet and point the flash at it (about 1ft away), and it will act as a huge light source. More power may be needed depending on the sheet/diffusion material you use otherwise you can just stand where the light is behind you.
Tip: Use the flash in manual mode and have the light high and pointing towards the model, as you would normally.
